Seed sales support for gamekeepers’ charity

GWT logoAs the Gamekeepers’ Welfare Trust (GWT) celebrates its 25th anniversary, Kings’ ongoing support of the charity will this year include a donation from seed sales.

The GWT provides a valuable service including grants and a confidential listening service to those in the industry, from keepers just starting their career to those that have retired. Following many years of working together, Kings will be donating £1 from every bag of Winter Wildlife Holding Cover sold in 2017.

Kings’ sales manager, Richard Barnes, explains, “We work closely with keepers from a variety of backgrounds, so we recognise the valuable work carried out by the GWT. Making a difference in the industry is important to us and we look forward to presenting the donation this summer.”

Winter wildlife holding cover webThe donation has been attached to the Winter Wildlife Holding Cover mix as this is one of Kings’ most popular products. As well as being great for game, it’s ideal for use within wild bird seed mixture areas under Entry and Higher Level Stewardship, Mid and Higher Tier schemes and can be used within the fallow option of Ecological Focus Areas too.

“Game managers increasingly see benefit from integrating wild bird seed mixtures into their habitat planning for both wild and reared game bird situations,” Richard continues. “This particular mix is a great complement to maize, kale and sorghum and is particularly beneficial for holding game post release and for season driving long cover.

“It looks great with the sunflowers, buckwheat and phacelia all providing colour, so it’s a handy addition to areas near footpaths and other public access areas. The mix really comes into its own in year two when the kale and perennial chicory provide great holding and driving cover.”

“By using this mix across the shoot, you can support the incredibly valuable work of the GWT while meeting stewardship requirements, supporting farmland wildlife and improving your sporting interests,” Richard concludes.

As part of its 25th anniversary celebrations, the GWT is holding five Gamekeeping for Life conferences which will include a number of key speakers, case studies and demonstrations to celebrate the relationships between keepers and employers on the dates below.
